Founded by Pooja Bihani, Principal Architect

 

Spaces and Design is an award-winning design studio based in Kolkata, dedicated to creating environments that epitomize harmony, aesthetics, and optimum functionality. Founded by Pooja Bihani in 2006, the studio offers comprehensive turnkey architecture and interior design services for residences, workspaces, and lifestyle spaces. Pooja, a gold medallist from S.P.S.M.B.H’s College of Architecture in Kolhapur, is also a member of the prestigious IIID forum (Indian Institute of Interior Designers), Kolkata Chapter.

The purpose of Spaces and Design is to create environs that epitomize harmony, aesthetics, and optimum functionality, thereby enriching the life of the user in their habitat. Pooja Bihani believes in giving each project a unique identity, working within the mandates of the site, budget, and clients’ lifestyles and needs. She also incorporates Pranic Feng Shui principles into her designs, forming a robust framework that drives her well-honed design and execution process.

Spaces and Design adopts a boundary-less approach, blending influences from traditional Indian to Scandinavian styles, and frequently crafting customized design elements and wall art. This philosophy has earned the studio significant acclaim in the design industry.

Design ethos

The concept of ‘Interior Architecture’ underpins every design endeavour by Spaces and Design. The studio integrates architecture and interiors to create an inviting ‘inside-out’ experience and incorporates Pranic Feng Shui principles into the design. Based on simple circulation plans, the spaces flow into each other, highlighting the studio’s inherent style of capturing the beauty of simplicity and symmetry.

Our Milestones

2017

First Award

Spaces and Design won the best design at Decowood Design Diva 2017 in the Category of Retail.

2014

First Appearance in Media

Spaces and Design was featured in t2 for its design of Pitter-Platter flagship store at Kolkata’s Quest mall.

The use of the colours like black, white and golden adds to that old world charm, luxury and the elegance which is required for this type of store. The black & white diagonal flooring, the chandelier at the ceiling all has been meticulously planned and intricately positioned to exude a grand look and feel of the bygone era.

2006

Making this the first

Pooja started her career with Mr. Sunil Tainwala, Aarteg as a designer in 2000.

She established her own office in June 2006 in the name of “Spaces and Design”. The design mantra at Spaces and Design is to “Constantly innovate”.
